  • It’s the first EVER Puppy University in Barnes! I have been so excited to teach this new course from @puppyschooluk

This course is all about learning life skills that are practical for everyday encounters.

You can see the pups learning how to walk calmly on lead through a triangle pattern game, plus exploring novel objects as a foundation for a retrieve!   • Got the puppy blues? You’re not alone! ❤️ Puppies can be Hard. Work. Give yourself some grace and remember that you’ve got a baby animal who doesn’t know much about the world yet! My top 3 things to prioritise are: 🐾 Building a relationship 🐾 Relationships are built on trust. Let your puppy know that they can trust you by giving them a predictable routine, supporting them when they feel overwhelmed or uncertain, and teaching them that good things happen when you’re around. 🐾Understanding dog body language 🐾 Wish your dog could talk? Well learning how to read body language is about as close as we can get to an Up-style talking collar! @doggielanguagebook is the perfect place to start. The better you understand what your dog is saying the easier it is to fulfil their needs and grow their confidence. 🐾Teaching calm & settle 🐾 This is a skill that needs to be learned! Puppies have serious FOMO, but also need serious sleep time. This is not a good combo! Start with the routine, introducing calm activities, set up a safe, quiet space and teach settling as a training exercise just like your recall or lead walking! Need help? We were asked to join the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures to show how dogs learn through positive reinforcement 🧠 The whole lecture on AI is on @bbciplayer and it’s a very interesting watch!
