1:1 Training

Being a dog parent in the city is no walk in the park!

Think busy roads, packed parks, and plenty of stressed-out pups. If your dog’s recall is non-existent, they’re dragging you down the road after a cat, or you become invisible the moment another dog appears, you are not alone!

I’ve been through all of it (and more) and I promise, things can get better.

Many dog parents assume their young pups will simply grow out of unwanted behaviours but the truth is, practise makes perfect and right now, they’re getting really good at the things you don’t want them to do! Waiting until these behaviours become overwhelming (at any age) only makes change harder, often leading to costly behaviour programs or, in the worst cases, rehoming.

Don’t worry, you can have a calm, confident dog who rushes back to you in the park, walks safely by your side and is actually fun to be with. All it takes is the right support and guidance. As a qualified trainer who’s worked with hundreds of dogs, I can help you rediscover the joy of life with your pup!

My force-free, positive approach looks at the bigger picture: you, your dog, and the environment. I show you how to weave training into your daily routine so it feels natural, not like another chore.

Is your dog like Hope the Husky?

Her poor owners would spend hours (I mean it, hours!) trying to get her back on lead after a walk.
They signed on to my London Dog program and here is what they have to say now:

β€œI did not expect our dog to improve so well and so quickly. Kaitlin is very helpful, gentle and has all the tricks and advice one might need. Hope loved her and is now a more confident and happy dog. Kaitlin’s positive reinforcement is exactly what we were looking for. If she can teach recall to a husky, she can literally do anything! I could not recommend her enough! We will be forever grateful!”

How About Quinny?

She struggles to trust people and would bark and lunge at almost anything when out on a walk.

β€œKaitlin is amazing. She had our nervous dog literally eating out of her hands within moments of meeting her. We started out with a 1:1 consultation wherein Kaitlin assessed my dog’s needs. Training walks were recommended to get my dog to where she needs to be. Even after the first walk I could see a noticeable difference in the way she responded to her environment. Kaitlin is knowledgeable, patient, professional and I highly recommend her and Encore Dogs!”

Welcome to Encore Dogs! If you are looking to prevent and manage unwanted behaviours, or to provide fun, enriching life experiences for you and your dog, then you are in the right place!

Do dogs always move away from you when you try to pet them? It may be because they don’t want you to touch their head! πŸ™…β™€οΈ

Always let the dog come to you. They don’t owe you a greeting! They will come if they feel comfortable and want the attention.

People always point out how happy their dog seems when I greet them, it’s because I respect their space and avoid the over-head petting! And if a dog doesn’t come to me, I don’t take it personally πŸ˜†

Another video starts with a dogs enthusiastically running up to the person and getting scratches under the chin and on the back. Text overlay reads: β€˜Stop petting dogs like this!’, β€˜let them choose to come to you’, β€˜scratches under the chin (not the top of the head), β€˜no outstretched arms’, β€˜stop and let them leave’.
It’s a SPOOOOKY Tea Time Training Tip! πŸ‘»πŸ«–

What do you think of the use of the word β€˜treats’ in dog training?

They aren’t really β€˜treats’ like the ones we get on Halloween...

Join Quinny and I real-time on a Train for You walk! πŸ•πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

This quick video shows just how much training is happening when you’re out and about! (Especially on this busy Richmond road).

I always say to my clients who are dealing with difficult walks that you have to be SO aware of your surroundings and ready to be proactive.

When Quinny and I first started working together, she pulled like a train and could not relax around the busy road. Now she is walking like a superstar! ⭐️

Train for You walks and 1:1 sessions are FULL for the rest of the year, but if you want to be first on the waitlist for January, send me a DM or email me at kaitlin@encoredogs.com 😊

Alt text: video shows trainer and dog on a busy road. Firstly stopped at an intersection where two vans are backing up. The trainer rewards the dog for waiting at the crossing, then they cross when it is safe. The dog stays in a calm heel the whole time. Once they cross the dog is directed to move to the left of the trainer, and they continue walking with the dog to heel. The trainer then instructs the dog to walk freely ahead by motioning forward with her left hand.
3 fun skills you can teach your dog, even if they’re not an assistance dog! πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί

1. Clothing removal - a sock is a great starting point 🧦
2. Closing doors - very convenient if you have a habit of leaving doors open! Also great if the door or drawer is low and you can’t bent down. πŸšͺ
3. Hold (&drop) - need help tidying? Teach your dog the hold & drop! 🐢
